Alliance Therapist Spotlight

photo
Hello everyone! My name is Sabrina Butts and I am a L-COTA (licensed certified occupational therapist assistant). I was born and raised in Roswell, NM (insert alien jokes), and have been practicing Occupational Therapy (OT) for 20 years this past May. I am married and we have 2 sons, my oldest son just recently made me a very proud Army mom (Hooah!).
I have worked in every possible domain of OT from LTACH, inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab both pediatric and adult, OT Department head for inpatient rehab, area regional manager for nursing home setting (over 14 facilities), work hardening, and the school systems. I have always done side work with home health, seeing a few visits each week. Home health is my favorite and yet, the most challenging by far!
I decided to do home health full time in 2009, which lead me to meet Dexter Simmons in 2010. I have worked with ATS since we opened and have enjoyed watching the growth of ATS the past 4 years. We started out small, however, our reputation would not allow us to go unnoticed and the whirl wind started, we are growing faster than I would have ever imagined. Knowing that I work with some of the very best therapist in the area makes me love my profession even more!
After my patients and/or colleagues find out I live in Sulphur Louisiana, I get asked why do I choose to work in the Golden Triangle. My answer is simple, “ATS is in Texas not Louisiana”. I have said this before and it’s still true, ATS is my last job, the one I will retire from, happily!

ATS Accepts the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

08/29/2014

Alliance Therapy Services is happy to participate and show our support of ALS research, both monetarily and through pouring ice cold water over our heads!  Amyotrphic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly called “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”, is a disease process that affects the motor neurons of individuals who suffer from it.  The disease is progressive and its effects are severe.  Combined with the poorly understood nature of this condition, ALS research is of vital importance and deserves to be spotlit.  ATS will gladly donate to this cause and challenge anyone else who can, to do so as well.  We hope you enjoy watching the ATS Admin Team participate in this challenge!  You can find a link to donate below.

Alliance Therapist Spotlight

Keeping up with the Therapist Spotlight!  Everyone, meet Ben!

Ben

Hey everybody! My name is Ben and I imported myself to SETX two years ago from the Northeast.  I was born and raised in Upstate New York in a small town called Greenwich, where cows outnumber the town population and agriculture is the main industry.  While in high school, I suffered countless ankle sprains playing basketball & soccer which opened my eyes to the world of physical therapy from the patient’s perspective. After 18 years in Greenwich, I was accepted by Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program.  Springfield’s accelerated DPT program allowed me to obtain a minor in nutrition and my DPT after 6 1/2 years.

Clinical affiliations during my DPT education in Birmingham, AL and Chapel Hill, NC gave me a taste of the south and a hunger for more.  After graduation in the summer of 2012, I decided to pursue Traveling PT which landed me in SETX and introduced me to ATS.  I had also experienced home health in the Lakes Area and I was employed in a couple skilled nursing facilities and in a convent, located in the North Shore area of Massachusetts. The core of values that ATS is founded upon, as well as the flexibility of the mobile work environment, are two of many positive attributes that drive me provide Southeast Texans with the best quality of care possible. I value ATS for giving me the opportunity to grow as a clinician and turn me into the young professional I am today.

When I’m not evaluating and treating patients, you can find me fishing on Rayburn, attending the local farmer’s market, hitting the links for a round or two, or enjoying a cold beverage at the beach!

Alliance Therapist Spotlight

Hey everyone!

In our field of healthcare, there are situations when a name may not necessarily be tied to a face.  Well, we’re going to fix that!  Starting now, we will be posting up pictures and a biography of our therapists on a regular basis.  This will be a fun way to have our therapists introduce themselves to you (whoever you are) and to each other.  We’re going to kick this off with Toben, who is relatively new to the team but is a quick study!

Toben

Hello all! My name is Toben, and my wife Cassie and I have lived in Beaumont for almost 10 years. We moved here from Seattle, WA where I attended a Commercial Diving school which is what originally brought us down to the gulf coast. I worked as a commercial diver for about 6 years diving offshore and inland in support of oil and gas projects, salvage, survey, ship husbandry, and a whole host of other activities before I decided that I did not want to be cold and wet the rest of my life – it was time for a change.

The decision to become a Physical Therapist Assistant was largely motivated by my experience coaching CrossFit and a love of helping people achieve their goals through strength training and lifestyle. I had originally taken degrees in Philosophy and Music so getting into health and science was a bit of a change; but it’s one that I am happy to have made as I get to work with an amazing range of people and I find the work immeasurably fulfilling.

My wife and I are expecting our first child, a daughter, in early October and while we could have spun a globe and put our finger down a thousand times we probably would have never hit Beaumont Texas, we are looking forward to raising our family here and growing with ATS.

New Faces in the Admin Team!

07/14/2014

Hey Everyone!

I wanted to reach out and provide an update on what’s been going on in the office.  In short, we have hired additional staff members to the Admin team to help keep up with all the daily tasks at HQ.  With our recent growth, we have a need to expand our capabilities in the office to make us more effective, efficient and reliable.  We are poising ourselves to be the largest, most organized therapy company in Texas, and this takes manpower!  We are still interviewing for a full time position, so keep your ears open for more news on this front.

I’m sure by now you have had  the opportunity to speak to some, if not all, of the new staff members.  I wanted to attach a photo to this post so you can place a face with a name.

Thank you all for your patience as we make this transition.

Most of all, THANK YOU all for your hard work and dedication to ATS!

Sincerely,

The ATS fleet continues to grow!

04/22/2014

As ATS continues to grow in Southeast Texas there is a constant buzz in the office on what we can do to improve our service.  Adding company cars to the mix has definitely stirred things up in a good way!  We have become more visible to the community while also increasing our service line territories.  Be on the lookout for our cars and wave to your friendly ATS Therapist if you see them driving by.  We already have plans to add several more cars to the lineup so keep your eyes peeled!

Small Team Meetings are happening, and good things are happening because of it!

01/23/2014

We wanted to give all of our employees a “heads up” on Team Meetings.  If you haven’t already heard, we are trying to focus on problem solving and providing guidance for everything you encounter while treating patients – we also want to share any emerging ATS News with you.  We have tried to address some issues in the past during our Quarterly Meetings, but we feel that those meetings have become so large that it would be difficult to address everything that needs careful attention.  Quarterly Meetings will now become Bi-Annual Meetings which will largely be a blend of official announcements and team building activities and we’ll have several small team meetings that are focused on each discipline and also teams in certain territories.  Currently, these meetings are being directed by Dexter, but the long term goal is to have our Administrator lead them.  When you are asked to attend we hope that you can make every effort to be there; it will be a valuable use of your time and your input will ultimately help direct what we need to focus on in the future.

Topics to be addressed are:

  • Communication Issues
  • Scheduling Practices
  • Software Education
  • Documentation
  • Territory Concerns
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  • New Therapy Initiatives
  • Updated News on the State of ATS
